In this episode I talk to Print Maker Laura Boswell. We begin
the podcast touching on how Laura first became interested in both
Lino cut and Japanese wood block printing, and how a chance
catalyst led her to pursuing a career into the arts.
We move on to talk about the differences between craft and art,
artisan and artist, before looking at the word ‘style’ and its
connotations. This leads us into the importance of thinking
critically about our own work, to develop as both artists and
teachers.
Following this, we talk about the traditional principles of
Japanese wood block printing; touching on colour combinations and
the use of our intuition to guide our composition.
Finally, Laura shares her experiences with personal mental health
challenges, offering words of advice based on her own coping
strategies.
